Daywise Itinerary

In the morning arrive at Guwahati Airport (GAU) and be met by our tour representatives. After that, start your journey to the border town of Samdrup Jongkhar, Bhutan via lush green tea plantations of Assam, India.

Before entering Bhutan complete immigration formalities. Indian nationals need a valid passport or voter ID card and must pay the Sustainable Development Fee (SDF). Other nationalities require a pre-arranged visa. Check into your hotel and take a leisurely walk around the town.

After breakfast, begin your scenic drive to Trashigang, the largest town in eastern Bhutan. This journey of approximately 6-7 hours (180 km) ascends through lush forests and passes through small villages.

  • Stop at key points along the way if time permits and visit popular Yongla goemba in Pemagatshel district.
  • Visit National Handloom Weaving Centre: Khaling is famous for its traditional weaving. This center, run by the national women's association of Bhutan, is an excellent place to see the age-old techniques of dyeing and weaving authentic Bhutanese textiles. You can also purchase finished products.
  • Muenselling Institute (Khaling Blind School): This school for the visually impaired, also known as the National Institute for the Disabled, is an inspiring place to visit. It provides education and vocational training for students from all over Bhutan.
  • Arrive in Trashigang and check into your hotel. Visit the Trashigang Dzong, a fortress with a commanding view of the valley.

In the morning drive to Trashi Yangtse, which takes about 2-3 hours (52 km). The town is known for its woodwork and paper production.

  • Visit Gomphu kora: The history of Gomphu Kora dates back to the 8th century AD. According to legend, Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava), a key figure in the introduction of Buddhism to Bhutan, meditated in a cave at this location. He subdued an evil demon named Myongkhapa who had fled from Tibet and was hiding inside a rock. It is believed that Guru Rinpoche, disguised as a garuda, engaged the demon, who was in the form of a cobra, in a compassionate "dance of love and understanding," leading the demon to remorse. This legend is a central theme of the site's significance and is often celebrated during the annual festival.
  • Visit the Chorten Kora, a stupa similar to Nepal's Boudhanath stupa
  • The National Institute for Zorig Chusum (Institute of the 13 Arts and Crafts) to see students learning traditional Bhutanese art forms.

Evening drive back to Trashigang.

In the morning, begin your drive to Lhuntse, a journey of about 3-4 hours. Lhuntse is famous for its intricate hand-woven textiles, particularly the Kishuthara weave.

  • Visit the Lhuntse Dzong, perched on a high ridge overlooking the Kuri Chhu river. It's a picturesque fortress with a rich history.
  • Explore the villages known for their weaving traditions, such as Khoma village.
  • Towards afternoon visit giant Guru Nangsi zilnön, The construction was initiated in response to a sacred prophecy by the great terton (treasure revealer) Lerab Lingpa (1856-1926). He prophesied that a statue of Guru Nangsi Zilnön should be built in the Kurtoe valley to prevent a future "war of horses" and ensure peace and prosperity. The project was initiated and funded by the Druk Odiyana Project and conceptually designed by the Ven. Khenpo Karpo Rinpoche. Construction began in March 2008 and the statue was consecrated in 2015.

The statue's primary purpose is to promote stability, peace, and prosperity in Bhutan and around the world. Overnight at Takila

Morning: Drive from Lhuntse to Mongar. This journey takes about 3 hours. Mongar is a commercial hub and a gateway to central Bhutan.

  • Visit the Mongar Dzong, a unique fortress built without the traditional use of nails or iron bars.
  • Towards evening, relax and explore the small town of Mongar.

Start your return journey to Samdrup Jongkhar. The drive back is long, approximately 6-7 hours. Enjoy the last views of eastern Bhutan's rugged landscape as you descend from the hills. Arrive back in Samdrup Jongkhar for your final night in Bhutan.

After breakfast, complete immigration formalities and exit Bhutan. Drive back to Guwahati Airport for your departure.
